With a proud tradition spanning half a century, Daelim University, home to approximately 7,000 members, has been dedicated to providing world-class, field-based vocational education. I believe the fundamental job of undergraduate school is to help young people to nurture knowledge and character, to learn who they are, to shape their aspirations for a fulfilling future, to search for a larger purpose of their lives, and to leave school as a better human being.
Through the collective efforts of our university community, we have earned prestigious distinctions, including recognition as one of the nation’s leading higher vocational education institutions, one of the highest graduates employment rates nationwide, and the successful acquisition of diverse government-funded projects. These achievements hold even greater meaning as they ultimately reflect the happiness and success of our graduates.
In light of the rapid demographic shifts, changing lifestyles and values, and the accelerating pace of technological advancement, the role and mission of universities must be redefined. By aligning with these fast changing social and industrial structures, we are focusing our capabilities on developing field-based curricula for Korea’s globally competitive industries and further strengthening industry-academia collaboration, internationalization, and engagement with the local community. Through these initiatives, I believe Daelim University will continue to strengthen its standing and achieve even higher recognition.
The decline in the school-age population is a pressing issue not only for our university but for all other universities as well. Over the next decade, this demographic shift will have a profound impact on the national education system, and many universities will need to make strenuous efforts to survive, and our university is no exception. We too must prepare extraordinary strategies and execute them proactively in order to secure our future.
By combining the insight and efforts of all members, I am confident that we can shape Daelim University into an institution that is even more respected and trusted by the society.
